Br. Lawrence changed my life when I discovered him about a decade ago. It enheartens me greatly to think that the Holy Father has been shaped by him as well.
Brother Lawrence and Pope Leo’s reference to his work gladden my heart. Bishop Erik’s words almost always evoke a visceral response from me: in these times that feel so stifling and clouded, his words are like a cold glass of water on a hot day. As much as his ideas and views are astute, his manner of communicating hits me deeper. Thank you for this article/ interview.
I'm glad to see Brother Lawrence becoming better known. I am always sad that he is not a canonized saint, but based on his writings, I'm sure he is enjoying God's company in heaven anyway.
He is generally called a "lay brother," not a friar, as in his day there was a bigger distinction between those groups in terms of status, nowadays done away with.

I thank God for both Brother Lawrence and Bishop Erik. What gifts God has deigned to offer us.
