“The conference headquarters is increasingly occupied by empty real estate, layoffs have occurred with the collapse of federal refugee resettlement programs, and signs from the conference are that a more significant downsize may soon be coming.”

I was told, repeatedly, that the USCCB was not profiting in any way from this money, that it was merely a pass-through.

Huh.

I know, and I’m glad you corrected your earlier reporting on this. Many of us pointed out in real time that “spend as much as you get” is not the same as not making a profit.

I just want it reinforced at every opportunity that the USCCB was making a profit off of government immigration money. Which of course is a clear conflict of interest they deny to this very day.

To this day, it’s still routinely denied that they do.

I stil ldon't think we agree on what "make a profit" means, but no need ot go around again either.

Well, it’s pertinent this week with the Census thing. It’s an example of a conflict of interest the USCCB obviously has, but refuses to acknowledge or manage.
