Can anyone help shed some light on the line "with 45.2% of priests falling between the ages of 45-49 years old"? That number seems so extreme - almost half the priests in Rome are within a four year age range? But statistics have never been my strong suit. I gave the linked pdf a scan to see if any of the tables jumped out at me, and then lazily fed it into ChatGPT to see if it could help me understand that number. It seemed to think it was talking about a specific cohort, indicating a significant generational 'bulge', but it's still difficult for me to make sense of within the whole diocese.
